SCHOOL BALL

Friday 9th January was a very special day for the students of our school, especially for the seniors (students aged 18-19 who attend the last form and are going to take their “maturita” / school-leaving exams in May).  It was the day of the school ball that traditionally takes place at the beginning of January. The ball was festively opened at 7 o´clock and after the festive speeches of the mayor of the town Ing. F. Jiraský and the school headmistress Mgr. B. Kysilková the ceremonial line up of the 4 A class and 4 B class students followed. It started with their show dance and then there was time for the “red carpet” (this is not a metaphor, when their names were read one by one, they really stepped forward on the red carpet and got sashes from their form teachers). After that there was another show dance – this time performed by an amateur local dance club and after that the seniors invited their teachers to dance with them the first two dances - polka and slow waltz. Then everybody started to dance either in the main ball room where a live band played or in the other ball room with a disc-jockey. At midnight all the seniors gathered in the main ball room to dance with their sashes to assure good luck during the final exams. The last thing we haven´t mentioned yet was a tombola.
